Daily Post #2

Great Smallville site for those interested.  They appear to be more into the show than I am.

I watched 3 more episodes today and we meet Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow.  Clark and Oliver quickly learn each others secrets and start working together.  Here we see the beginnings of Smallville’s version of the Justice League.

James Marsters is Dead!!!

I’ve been lax in posting lately, so I’ve decided to double post today as I plow through 9-10 more episodes.

Which brings me to the title of this post:  For the last season (5), James Marsters has been playing the Kryptonian created Brain InterActive Construct, AKA-  Brianiac.  He fulfills his purpose by bringing Zod to Earth, so he’s gone now.  Sorry to all of you Spike fans.
Zod possess Lex Luthor’s body and plots to kill all humans on Earth after sending Clark to the Phantom Zone.  Clark escapes because he’s Clark and defeats Zod.

Updated for angelchrys.com

Some of the best moments in the show happen when we get glimpses of Superman’s future and seasons 5 & 6 didn’t disappoint.  In Superman II, Superman gives up his powers so he can be with Lois Lane, then finds out that General Zod and his cronies are on Earth.  One of the last scenes of the movie has Zod forcing Superman to kneel before him and swear allegiance in order to save the planet.  Superman pulls a fast one on the Krypto-cronies though and squeezes Zod’s hand while kneeling before putting the bad guys in their place.
Smallville draws on this scene in the defeat of Zod in the show.  Clark kneels before Zod (possessing Lex Luthor) and takes his hand while Clark is holding an El family crest that forces Zod out of Lex’s body.  They even have the being ripped from Lex’s body look like Terrance Stamp who played Zod in the Superman movies :)

We also get to meet Jimmy Olsen for the first time, played by Shawn Ashmore from the X-Men movies where he plays Bobby Drake, AKA – Iceman.

At the completion of this post, I’ve watched:
106 Fragile
107 Mercy
108 Fade
109 Oracle
110 Vessel

Season 6
111 Zod

Progress Update

I’ve managed to slog through the first 100 episodes of the show thus far and am beginning to run into more and more episodes I’ve already seen.  Don’t worry though, I’m watching every episode, even if I’ve already seen it.  Here’s what I’ve watched since my last post:
90 Mortal
91 Hidden
92 Aqua
93 Thirst
94 Exposed
95 Splinter
96 Solitude
97 Lexmas
98 Fanatic
99 Lockdown
100 Reckoning
101 Vengeance
102 Tomb
103 Cyborg
104 Hypnotic
105 Void

**Major plot point worth mentioning – Jonathan Kent died in episode 100, marking a major theme in the Superman legacy**

I’ve also finished “The Name of The Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss for the second time in preparation for the sequels release next Tuesday.  It was equally impressive the 2nd time around.  Unfortunately, I’m having withdrawal from the world of Kvothe, so I’m thinking about rereading it, again…

Pepsi Free 2/20 – 5/31

I’m officially not drinking Pepsi (all soda really) and am going to go without for 100 days.  Jessica and I are probably going to start a blog chronicling our exercise/diet journey, so I’ll put out a link for that once it’s up and running.

4 down, 6 to go!

Season 4 is now under my belt and I’ve tucked in to Season 5.  In the final episode of Season 4 (Commencement), Smallville is rocked with it’s second meteor shower in 16 years.  Clark finally acquires all 3 pieces of the ancient relic everyone has been searching for and is transported to the North Pole where he chucks the reunited relic pieces into the distance and his Fortress of Solitude is born.  Chloe is zapped along for the ride and Clark has to stop his training with Jor-El in order to return her to safety.  Jor-El allows this only if Clark promises to return before the sun sets.

Smallville runs with the Fortresses creation storyline established by the Christopher Reeve movies

Unfortunately, the meteor shower also brings with it another space ship, this one filled with 2 Kryptonians lobbying for Kal-El to join Zod and Brainiac(James Marsters – excellent casting btw).  Clark banishes them to the Phantom Zone (we haven’t been told this yet but it’s pretty clear) and saves Lana.  Because Clark is never able to keep a promise though, he doesn’t return to the Fortress before the sun sets and Jor-El takes his powers away.

Good news:  Clark has now spilled the beans to Chloe about his origins.
Bad news:      He hasn’t opened up to Lana and he’s lost all his powers.

Oh, and they’ve now graduated from Smallville High.

Here’s what I’ve watched since my last post:
Season 4
84 Spirit
85 Blank
86 Ageless
87 Forever
88 Commencement

Season 5
89 Arrival

In a hurry!

I was reminded yesterday of a book coming out in the next 2 weeks that is going to prevent me from watching any more episodes for at least a day or two: The Wise Man’s Fear: The Kingkiller Chronicle: Day Two by Patrick Rothfuss.  Christy Brown turned me on to the first book in the series (The Name of the Wind) sometime last year and let me finish it before telling me it was a trilogy that had not yet been finished!!!  Book 2 comes out March 1 and I’ve already got it preordered for the Kindle (thanks again to Christy for the Amazon gift card for my birthday).

If you’re reading this blog, then this book is probably right up your alley.  It’s a fantasy novel that is amazingly well written.  The writer has taken around 3 years to write book 2 though, so you may be better off waiting a while until book 3 comes out sometime next century.

13 more down

Watched these episodes over the last 3 days:
71 Run
72 Transference
73 Jinx
74 Spell
75 Bound
76 Scare
77 Unsafe
78 Pariah
79 Recruit
80 Krypto
81 Sacred
82 Lucy
83 Onyx

Lots of stuff happened…but the main plot points in this season are a little contrived.  Coolest thing to happen so far: Chloe learns Clark’s secret but Clark doesn’t know.  Oh, and Clark finally decided to quit playing football because he apparently had an unfair advantage.

Watched a lot…

I accomplished quite a bit yesterday, watching 10 episodes in  a 9 hour period, then went home and watched one more.

Here is what I watched:

Season 3
60 Crisis
61 Legacy
62 Truth
63 Memoria
64 Talisman
65 Forsaken (Part 1)
66 Covenant (Part 2)

Season 4
67 Crusade
68 Gone
69 Façade
70 Devoted

In short, here’s what happened:

A Kryptonite inspired, time-traveling telephone call from Lana 1 day in the future helps Clark save her from a gun-wielding zombie (writing that made me split my side and caused Jessica to comment “wow, that show is borderline retarded”).

Jonathan gets bugged by Jor-El that it is time for Clark to leave and begin his journey with Jor-El, but Jonathan stubbornly ignores it.  Lex wires himself up for the FBI to investigate his father, Lionel.  Then Lionel somehow gets the FBI to look into Clark and raid the Kent farm.

Chloe breaks into a LuthorCorp lab and gets exposed to a gas that compels those around her to tell only the truth.  She gets Lionel Luthor to admit to hiring someone to kill his parents 20 years ago and saves it as a voicemail to herself.  Pete (Clark’s best friend) almost lets Clark’s secret slip to Chloe.  Lionel finds a way to erase his confession on Chloe’s voicemail (millionaires have it made).

Lex has been visiting the Summerholt Institute (evil brain “research” lab from previous episodes) to help him recover the memories he lost when his father submitted him to electroshock therapy.  Clark tries to convince him to stop because Lex knew his secret during the weeks Lex lost, but falls into a trap placed by Lionel and is submitted to the memory treatment himself.  The treatment backfires (duh, it’s Superman) and causes the lab to blow up, but not before Clark recalls his earliest memory: his mother being saddened at sending him away.

An ancient relic (knife) found in the Kiwatche Caves gives a member of the Kiwatche tribe superman-like powers.  Professor Willowbrook (Kiwatche leader) believes that Clark is Namam, the man who fell from the stars.  According to a prophecy, the knife belongs to Clark and can only be destroyed by his greatest enemy.  Clark eventually defeats the Kiwatche tribe member that stole the knife, but has to watch as the knife turns to ash as Lionel and Lex Luthor touch it simultaneously.  Pete reveals to Chloe that his parents are getting a divorce and his mom is moving to Wichita, aka: beginning of the end for Pete on the show :(

Lana decides to move to Paris for her senior year, prompting Clark to invite her to dinner where he plans on revealing his secret so she will stay.  A cloned childhood friend of Lana’s escapes from a LuthorCorp facility (she can move fast and walk through objects) and comes after Lana, wanting to rekindle their friendship.  Clark saves her and puts the friend into custody somewhere.  Pete gets roughed up by the FBI because he won’t disclose Clark’s secret.  Chloe joins forces with Lex after recovering the voicemail where Lionel admits to killing his parents, leading to Lionel’s arrest for murder.  Pete decides to move to Wichita with his mom because the burden of Clark’s secret it too great,  causing Clark to renig on his plan to disclose his secret to Lana.  Cue sadness for Lana.

Clark’s cousin Kara, from Krypton, arrives at the Kent farm to convince Clark to return with her to the Kiwatche caves where he will be transported back to Krypton for training and be reborn with the spirit of Jor-El.  Kara later disintegrates an FBI agent eavesdropping on the Kent farm.  Clark testifies again Lionel to deny him bail, then ends his friendship with Lex after finding that he had an entire room in the mansion dedicated to investigating Clark.  The season ends with Clark being sucked in a crack in the cave wall, Jonathan collapsing into a coma, Lionel Luthor getting revenge: Chloe and her dad entering a witness protection safehouse right as it explodes, Lex drinks brandy in his mansion and collapes (presumably poisioned).  Lionel smiles in his jail cell knowing he got revenge.

Season 4:
Lois Lane is introduced as Chloe’s cousin who comes to Smallville investigating her death.  Lois finds Clark naked in a cornfield with amnesia but with the personality of Kal-El. Lana begins dating Jason Teague (aka Dean Winchester from Supernatural) in Paris but is absorbed in a light and mysteriously gets a Kryptonian symbol tattooed on her lower back forcing her to return to Kansas and investigate.  Lex recovered from being poisoned by his father, but has to have his blood transfused every 72 hours or he will die.  Clark (as Kal-El) steals an artifact Lex recovers in Egypt, but flies up to his plane and steals it mid-air (first time he flies).  Martha is approached by an associate of Virgil Swan’s (Christopher Reeve) named Bridget Crosby (Margot Kidder – Lois Lane in the Christopher Reeve movies).  She gives Martha Black Kryptonite, which forces Clark to return to normal.

Lois and Clark (that’s just fun btw) continue investigating Chloe’s death and discover that Lex and Lois’s father (Gen. Lane) are working together to prevent any investigation.  Lana reappears in Smallville to learn the orgins of her new tattoo while Lionel Luthor sends out T1000 wannabe after Clark.  Clark and Lois (much less fun) end up rescuing Chloe from metal-boy and learn that Lex had been keeping Chloe hidden so she could testify in safety.  Lionel is convicted of murder based on Chloe’s testimony.  Lois learns that her admittance into college is on hold until she completes 5 credits in HS…The Kents offer to let her stay on the farm.

Clark joins the football team as QB.  ”Scabby” Abby (HS kids are clever) comes back after the summer with a new look but learns that her kiss causes insanity.  Clark saves the day and wins the big football game.

The Cheerleaders formulate a Love Potion using Kryptonite that causes complete infatuation and infects the football team.  Clark drinks it, becomes weak, then gets beaten up by Lana’s boyfriend and new assistant coach (Jensen Ackles).  Lana works some magic and gets back into college without needing her Smallville credits.

Wolverine or Batmen?

I watched 9 or 10 episodes yesterday and promise to get at least one post up about the episodes sometime today.  In the meantime, is this Wolverine or 2 Batmen?

Wolverine or 2 Batmen?

Thanks to Christy Brown for that  :)

Episodes 58: Obsession & 59: Resurrection

58 – Season 3, episode 15: Obsession
Clark has to use his powers while trapped in a falling elevator with a girl, who then uses her ability to phase to get them out safely.  Budding romance ensues until the girl goes Swimfan on him and eventually tries to kill Lana Lang.  Pretty good episode minus the fact that it’s a ripoff of countless movies, tv shows, books, etc.

59 – Season 4, episode 16: Resurrection
This one is long, so I don’t blame anyone for skimming/skipping.
Jonathan Kent (Clark’s dad) is forced to undergo a triple bypass after being given Kryptonian powers by Jor-El in the Season 3 opener.
Backstory: Clark had left for Metropolis under the influence of Red Kryptonite (makes Clark evilish) and was living a life of crime.  Jor-El warned Jonathan there would be a price for getting the temporary powers and Jonathan has a heart attack a few episodes later.
This episode: Paul Ballard (Doll House – that’s not his real name but who can pronounce it anyway?) needs a liver transplant and dies while his little brother watches (same hospital as the Kents).  He mysteriously comes back to life and his brother is forced to stand by and watch him die again because they still don’t have a suitable liver to donate.  The littler brother comes back with a Kryptonite infused bomb strapped to his chest and tells them to take Jonathan’s liver.  Clark saves the day by throwing a lead apron (handy being in a hospital) around the bomb and rushes it away as a sniper takes the kid out from outside.  Clark learns that the substance used to temporarily revive the dead was created from blood he was forced to give in Season 2, and that Lionel Luthor is behind the experiments.

Tahmoh Penikett

Silly Canadians and their silly names. He's crying for Dollhouse already.

I provide a pretty full synopsis on this episode because it was (finally) not a ripoff of some other show/movie.  Yay for plot advancement and for ditching episode “fillers”.
